Breast Augmentation Without Implants?

Yes, it is possible! Autologous breast implantation, or fat-grafting breast augmentation, is a way to enhance your breasts without the use of implants. Instead, fat cells are harvested from another part of your body (usually from your thighs and buttocks) through liposuction. The fat cells (called autologous fat) are then reinserted into your breasts via injection.

The main benefits of fat-grafting breast augmentation are that your body does not need to take time to adjust to a foreign material (breast implants) and that it can recover from the procedure faster.

It also allows you to remove stubborn excess fat from other areas of your body, contouring these regions. When you get to use this fat to augment your breasts, it’s a win-win situation.

If you’re looking for a dramatic increase in the size of your breasts, this method is not the most ideal option. The maximum enhancement that can be done is one cup size, and for any larger augmentation, implants will have to be used. For those looking for a subtler size increase, fat-grafting augmentation is an excellent choice.

Before Your Procedure

If you’re interested in fat-transfer breast augmentation, you will first need a consultation with Dr. Martin. This consultation will consist of a physical examination and a discussion of your aesthetic needs and goals. You will tell Dr. Martin your medical history, along with your allergies and any medications you are currently taking.

Prior to the surgery, if you are taking blood thinners, you will need to stop taking them. Blood thinners can cause surgical and post-surgical complications.

The Augmentation Procedure

Fat-grafting breast augmentation takes place in three stages. The first is the harvesting of fat cells. After application of local anesthesia in the area, Dr. Martin removes excess fat from the thighs and/or buttocks using liposuction.

The fat from the liposuction is then purified through removal of blood and other tissues, along with dead and damaged cells. This ensures that it will stay healthy in the breasts.

The healthy fat cells are then injected into the breasts using extremely fine needles. The fat cells are injected into multiple areas of the breasts to evenly distribute them.

After Your Procedure

After fat-grafting breast augmentation, you will be advised not to do any vigorous physical activity for some time, including heavy exercise routines and sports. You will have to take care to not sleep on your stomach during recovery.

After consulting with Dr. Martin during a follow-up appointment, you can resume your job and other typical daily activities. Post-surgical compression garments will have to be worn on the liposuction sites to control swelling, and you will need to wear sports bras for a month or so after the surgery.

Good Candidates for the Procedure

Fat-transfer breast augmentation is best for those looking to increase the size of their breasts. Patients looking to make their breasts perkier and reduce sagging can achieve this with a different procedure: the breast lift.

This procedure is not ideal for women without much excess body fat, as at least 1,000 milliliters of excess fat should be harvested for use in augmentation.
