When you think of the typical plastic surgery patient, you may think of women. However, there is no typical plastic surgery patient. In fact, according to the 2018 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, eight percent of all procedures are for men. That figure is expected to rise to 29 percent by 2020. While men have their reasons for getting plastic surgery, there are commonalities as well. Here are some of the main reasons for male plastic surgery.
Blepharoplasty
No one likes the appearance of bags under your eyes. Unfortunately, some people seem prone to them, even if they sleep well each night. If you’re looking to rejuvenate the eyelid area, a blepharoplasty may be right for you. Eye lifts are a common procedure for both men and women. You will either get upper blepharoplasty or lower blepharoplasty. Upper blepharoplasty deals with the upper eyelid. Conversely, lower blepharoplasty deals with the under eyelid. Upper and lower blepharoplasty take a few days to recover.
Facelifts
The majority of the time, there’s no right or wrong time for a facelift. Why not do one now? Facelifts are a common procedure for both men and women. Before getting a facelift done, be sure to ask the surgeon what techniques he or she uses and how many he or she has done. Doing this can help you determine whether a facelift is a good idea with that surgeon. If you’re looking for a surgical way to look younger, a facelift can do that. While a facelift lasts for life, you may need to schedule minor follow-up facelifts. Scheduling “secondary facelifts” keeps your face looking natural and prevents sagging.
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is exclusively for men, and medically means abnormally large breasts in men. Gynecomastia is typically found in teenagers and goes away. However, if it doesn’t go away naturally, there are surgical options to consider. While gynecomastia doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you or your body, we understand that it may be embarrassing. We offer surgical in-office treatments or surgical in-hospital treatments for gynecomastia. Patience in treating gynecomastia is essential, as it normally takes three to six months to correct.
Liposuction
You may diet and exercise like crazy. But it still may not be enough for get rid of excess fat on the body. Many men are uncomfortable with the excess fat, which is why we recommend liposuction. Keep in mind, liposuction can also be done on women as well. Different areas can receive liposuction. For example, the stomach and thighs are two common treatment areas.
Male Abdominoplasty
If you have undergone weight loss surgery or have undergone a significant weight loss, you may want to consider an abdominoplasty. Essentially, this procedure is a body lift. Fat will be removed from your body. Also, different parts of your body may be lifted. Doing this can help give you a more masculine look.
