Surgical Consultation Questions to Ask

When it comes to having a procedure, you want to know you’re in the best hands. To help with that, I require consultations prior to booking any surgery. It helps you get to know me while also giving us time to talk about what you want to gain from surgery. Consultations are also the time where you can ask me any questions you may have and I’ll answer them. Below, you’ll find some of the surgical consultation questions to ask I think are most helpful.

Are You Board-Certified?

This is the most important question to ask the doctor doing your plastic surgery. Be sure to specify whether they are board-certified in plastic surgery. Just because a doctor is board-certified doesn’t mean it’s in plastic surgery. Luckily for you, I can assure you that I’m board certified in plastic surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery. I’m also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

How Frequently Do You Perform This Procedure?

Not only is it important to know that your surgeon is board-certified in plastic surgery, it’s also important to know how often they perform the procedure. After all, you don’t want to be the first one to get a procedure. For me, I’ve performed plastic surgery procedures for over 20 years. That should give you and your family the confidence that I know what I’m doing.

Who Will Be on My Surgical Team?

Whenever you go into surgery, it’s not just the doctor in the operating room. There is always a team to assist. At Cincinnati Plastic Surgery, we understand you want to feel as comfortable as possible. That’s why it makes sense to ask who will be a part of the surgical team.

What is Recovery Like?

Surgery is one part of plastic surgery procedures. Recovery is the other part. During consultation, I’ll let you know what the general recovery process is like for my patients. From there, you can ask me any other questions you may have on your mind.

Are Before and After Photos Available?

It’s always a good idea to ask about before and after photos. Many times, you’ll see photos that are either stock photos or come directly from a manufacturer. On our website, you’ll find many before and after photos of our actual patients.

When you’re preparing for a surgical consult, it’s always a good idea to write down any questions you may have. That way, you won’t forget them in the moment. It’s also a good idea to listen closely during the consultation in case I say something you want clarified later. With these surgical consultation questions, I’ll know that you take your health and who’s performing your surgery seriously. When you’re ready to schedule a surgical consultation, contact the office.
