Preparing for Liposuction

Preparing for Liposuction Cincinnati Plastic Surgery

One of the more effective fat removal surgeries in plastic surgery is liposuction. This procedure removes fat from different places on your body, leaving you with a more sculpted appearance. Just like any other plastic surgery procedures, preparing for liposuction takes time. At Cincinnati Plastic Surgery, we want to prepare you for the liposuction process both during surgery and after your surgery. Liposuction is an incredibly safe procedure, especially when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Martin.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat from specific areas of your body. The procedure aims to create better proportions for your body, resulting in a slimmer appearance. Both men and women can receive liposuction.

It’s important to note that liposuction is not a weight loss therapy. While you may lose a small amount of weight because of the fat removed from your body, it won’t be anything significant. We recommend being at your goal weight or near your goal weight before undergoing liposuction.

What Areas Receive Liposuction?

Everyone is different, so the areas we liposuction is different with each procedure. However, many people tend to have the same areas liposuctioned. Some of the more common areas include the neck, the stomach, the thighs, arms, legs, and areas where women’s bra straps lay. Additionally, we may liposuction the breasts for women with large breasts and men with gynecomastia. These tend to be the areas that hold on to the most fat. However, as we mentioned, everyone’s different, so the areas they receive liposuction are all different.

What Happens With the Fat?

You have two options with the removed fat. You can choose to dispose of the fat, which Dr. Martin and the staff will handle. Or, if you have areas of your body you’d like to see an increase in volume, you can opt for fat grafting.

With fat grafting, we purify the fat removed during liposuction, then inject it back into your body. Two of the more common places include the buttocks for a Brazilian butt lift or the breasts. If you’re interested in fat grafting procedures with liposuction, mention it during your surgical consultation.

What is Recovery Like?

Different people have differences in their recovery. One of the most important rules to follow is that you need someone to drive you home and stay with you following surgery to make sure nothing bad happens to you immediately following surgery.

Typically, you can return to work a few days after your surgery. Normal exercise and workouts can resume in 2 to 3 weeks. Rest and hydration aids in recovering faster. Remember, you don’t want to smoke before or after your surgery.

Preparing for liposuction doesn’t have to be something scary. It’s one of the more common plastic surgery procedures. At Cincinnati Plastic Surgery, Dr. Martin has years of experience performing liposuction. He’s the surgeon that other surgeons go to.
